Acer phones to run on Android

Taiwanese computer vendor Acer entered the market for smartphones this year after it acquired Taiwan’s portable device-maker Eten Information Systems Co. in 2008. The company has ambitions to become one of the top 5 handset vendors in the world by 2012.
The company launched its first series of smartphone handsets that run on Windows Mobile operating system at Mobile World Congress in February. Now, Acer plans to introduce a smartphone that run on Google’s Android operating system.
The company plans to sell around 10 mobile phones this year, based both on Microsoft’s Windows Mobile OS and on Google’s Android OS.
Senior Corporate Vice President, Aymar de Lencquesaing told that Reuters that Acer was seeing a lot of benefit from its laptop offering when looking for operator-partners to sell its smartphones. Company also said its phones come equipped with powerful processing and memory capabilities.
