Burj Dubai or Burj Khalifa in Dubai – The Tallest Building in the World

Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammad bin Rashed al-Maktoum on 4 January 2010 inaugurated the tower – formerly known as Burj Dubai – as Burj Khalifa in honour of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed al-Nahayan, the president of the United Arab Emirates. It is a “supertall” skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, and is the tallest man-made structure ever built, at 828 m (2,717 ft).

Burj Khalifa is 320 metres taller than Taipei 101, which at 508 metres (1,667 ft) had held the record for the world’s tallest building measured to the architectural top since 2004.

The Burj Dubai skyscraper is a world-class destination and the magnificent centerpiece of Downtown Burj Dubai, Dubai’s new urban masterpiece. The world’s tallest building is surrounded by hotels , must-visit shopping destinations and a world of entertainment options.

Construction began on 21 September 2004, with the exterior of the structure completed on 1 October 2009 and the building officially opened on 4 January 2010. The building is part of the 2 km (490-acre) flagship development called Downtown Burj Khalifa at the “First Interchange” along Sheikh Zayed Road, near Dubai’s main business district. The total budget for the Burj Khalifa project is about US$1.5 billion; and for the entire new “Downtown Dubai”, US$20 billion.

    Being the tallest building, what fire fighting equipment, fire retardant and what provisions do they have to prevent, reduce, stop fires from spreading, and to evacuate people fast in case of fire ???
